Homeopathy is based on the concept of “like cures like”. Substances that cause a symptom can be relieved by taking very dilute, safe doses of the same substance.

It is a safe, non-toxic form of healing that can be used for by all animals from a newborn to the elderly.

Homeopathic remedies contain very dilute quantities of plant, animal or mineral substances that are refined and transformed into medicines with remarkable curative properties. They stimulate the body's own natural healing forces to alleviate the symptoms and bring about a return to health.

It can be used to help a wide variety of ailments ranging from skin disorders in dogs, lameness in horses to kidney problems in cats.  The remedies are easy to administer and in many cases, very fast acting.

There are hundreds of remedies to choose from which can assist with a wide range of ailments. The individual remedy chosen should fit the ‘symptom picture’ of the patient. Remedies are selected based on finding the closest match to overall symptoms.


For example
Ipecac is prepared from a dilution of dried root of Rubiaceae plant.
If this plant is eaten it will cause poisoning with vomiting. When taken in homeopathic potency it can be used to treat these very same symptoms. Not only has it become completely non-toxic but it makes a very effective remedy.


Here are some of the most commonly used remedies for animals

ARNICA
This is often used for lameness from over-exertion, bruising, sprains and exhaustion from stress. Beneficial before and after surgery, tooth extractions or giving birth.

ACONITE
Shock, fevers, anxiety and early stage of acute conditions with great thirst.

APIS
Bites and stings, swellings and fluid retention. 

ARSENICUM
Restlessness, no appetite, vomiting, diarrhoea, enteritis, dry scaly skin, thirst for small quantities of water, the animal seeks warmth. This is often used for skin conditions with severe itching.

BRYONIA
Conditions which are worse for movement.  The animal will usually prefer to lie on the affected side, joint swellings.

CANTHARIS
Urinary problems, difficulty voiding, cystitis, burning pain, burns with blistering.

CARBO VEG
Flatulence, bad breath, digestive upset, colic, shock and collapse from whatever cause.

COCCULUS
Motion sickness, nausea, trembling, dizziness.  For animals that don't travel well.

COLOCYNTHIS
Acute abdominal pain, colic in horses.

GELSEMIUM
Fever, sneezing, flu, shaking with fright, trembling, weakness, muscle tremors.

GRAPHITES
Chronic wet eczema, especially in bends of limbs, groin, behind ears, seborrhoea in horses, some forms of interdigital cysts.

HEPAR SULPH
Extreme sensitivity to touch/pain, pus formation, boils, abscess, inflammation of the anal glands, ear canker, summer mastitis.

HYPERICUM
Injuries to nerves, puncture wounds, injuries to paws & tail.

IGNATIA
Grief, pining for owner, separation of bitch from pups, fits and convulsions, worse when alone.

IPECAC
Repeated vomiting, travel sickness, diarrhoea.

LATHYRUS
Paralysis, distressed breathing, frequent urination.

LEDUM
Anti-tetanus, puncture wounds, rising paralysis, insect bites.

MERC SOL
Ailments with yellow or greenish discharges, ear or nasal discharge, jaundice.

NUX VOMICA
Over-medicated animals, drug detox, hair balls, constipation, digestive upset, colic.

PULSATILLA
Shy, sad, no thirst, conjunctivitis, hormone balancing, female ailments, false pregnancy.

RHUS TOX
rthritis, stiffness, restless, sprains, worse for rest or better for frequent change of position.

RUTA GRAV
Sprained joint ligaments and bones.

SEPIA
Female remedy, tones uterus and ovaries, constipation during pregnancy.

SULPHUR
Dry eczema, mange, dandruff and chronic diarrhoea.

THUJA
Warts, ill-effects of vaccinations.

URTICA URENS
Rashes, redness, irritations, allergic skin conditions.
